The one thing everyone agrees on is that we should eat more plants. Eating more plant-based foods is in line with the Australian Dietary Guidelines to promote health and well-being. This includes eating a variety of unprocessed vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, and legumes, nuts and seeds to boost nutrient intakes.
Although high intakes of red and processed meats may increase risk of major diseases, a healthy, balanced, plant-based eating patterns can still include small amounts of lean meat trimmed of visible fat (particularly unprocessed white meat) and reduced-fat dairy products.
Plant based diets are also sustainable and good for the environment!
